Experiential Credit?

There were times when I was asked to approve experiential credit portfolios. After obtaining the student learning outcomes for a class, students would gather all of the pertinent information about the experience they had that could be used toward meeting each outcome. The information was submitted in a portfolio they had created.

Only some of the classes were approved for experiential credit. After seeing these portfolios, I would have to let each student know what else they were missing before credit were to be granted. When it was all said and done, and credit was finally granted, I have to wonder if it would not have been easier for these students to have just taken the class in the first place. (They did same some educational funds, though!)
