School Team Sports

I grew up with an in-ground swimming pool and learned how to stay afloat at a very young age. In high school, I joined the swim team. My swimming techniques were average as far as freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, but when it came to the butterfly, I excelled. The technique was easy for me, and my form was noticed by my coaches, and soon, by my team members. This gave me a sense of worth and encouragement to excel in other areas. One of the greatest things about being on a team is to know that you are all in it together. We learned to help each other and encourage each other. We also learned how to take defeat by reacting to it in a way of thinking, "We will work harder to be better next time around." This thought made it less of a 'defeat' and more of a 'challenge.' I made lifelong friends with people on the team and grew from the experiences.
